Me favorite season is autumn.

My favorite color is red.

My favorite food is fruit salad. What about you?

Students tell the same things about themselves using the prompt on the board.

  1. Telling the theme of the lesson.

Teacher: Do you know what we are going to speak about today?

Have a look at these pictures. If you take the first letters of these words you’ll know the topic of our lesson.

Flower,

octopus,

onion,

dog. – Students: It’s Food.

At the lesson we’ll read, write, recycle the vocabulary,

speak and role-play.

  1. Vocabulary practice.

Teacher: Listen to the tape and repeat the words. ( Teacher gives handouts to each group )

  • Listening Ex.1, p.70 S.b.: bowl, cup, fork, glass, knife, napkin, plate, saucer, spoon, teaspoon, and tablecloth.

  • Putting them in categories: Teacher: Now I want you to think of the categories you can put all these words in and explain why you put them in these categories.

  1. Plate, bowl, saucer – you eat out of it.

  2. Cup, glass – you drink out of it.

  3. Fork, knife, spoon, teaspoon – you eat with the help of it.

  4. Napkin, tablecloth – made of paper or cotton.

  • Reading the flashcards. The flashcards are on the board (packed lunch, a packet of crisps, yoghurt, café, a bar of chocolate, a chocolate biscuit, a bowl of cereal, vegetarian, banana, baked potatoes, sausages.)

  • Playing O and X. Teacher: Lets play O-s and X-s. These two teams are “O”, those are “X”. I want you to produce sentences with the flashcards I point to and write the sentences on the board. Working in groups students produce sentences and put either O or X on the grid.

  1. Reading for gist “What do you eat on a typical day?” Teacher: I want you to read the stories from Ex.1,p.71 and tell:

What they are about?

Who tells each story?

What do people like to eat?

  1. Speaking about eating habits of the students. Teacher: Now tell me please about your eating habits.

  • What do you eat for breakfast?

  • Who eats soup for breakfast?

  • Do you prefer a packed lunch or lunch at school café?

  • What do you eat for lunch?

  • What do you like eating for dinner?

  1. Listening practice for specific information. Teacher: Now you’ll listen to the dialogue and fill in the missing information. Ex.3, p.71.

VII. Simulation on the pictures. Teacher: I want you to make short stories about eating habits of the people in the pictures.

VIII. Reading for specific information. Teacher: I want you to look through the text 1, p.72 and be ready to answer the questions on the story.

IX. Questions on the story.

  • What was the name of the café? – “Good taste”.

  • What food do they serve for the main course? – Delicious baked potatoes with chicken, tuna and goats cheese.

  • What kinds of sandwiches do they have? – Chicken, ham, cheese.

  • What desserts do they serve? – Lemon cheese cake, chocolate cake, vanilla and strawberry ice-cream.

  • What drinks do they have? – Apple, orange, cherry juice.

X. Role play. “At the café". Teacher: Each group of students is an owner of a café. Think of the name for your café and menu. Then you are to produce the dialogues between the visitors and the cafe stuff. It’s up to you who’ll be visitors and who’ll be waitresses or waiters. These handouts will help you with the menu and the prices.

XI. Miming game. Each group of students is to mime the favorite dish of their café. The others are to guess.

XII. Homework. As you are already the owners of a new café write an adverticement for it: how it looks like and what food it serves.

XIII. Watching video. Teacher: Now we are going to watch a short film about cafés in Great Britain and do the tasks on the handouts.
