Warming-up (5 min)

Teacher chooses a song in English. Students should listen to identify words or phrases.

Students should listen to the song and write down words and phrases that they hear.

Step 1 (10 min)

Students work in pairs and work out the meaning of words and phrases they have identified.

Teacher divides students into small groups. Teacher can use different techniques to divide students. E.g. you can ask students to stand in a line according to their dates of birth (dd/mm). Then give each students a number from 1 to 4. If you, e.g., have 16 students you might have 4 groups of 4 people.

Step 2 (20-25 min)

Students work in their small groups and write a poem using the words that they have heard in the song.

Teacher monitors students as they speak and encourages them to share their ideas. Learners should write their first draft and then check it, edit it and produce a final piece of work.

Step 3 (10-15 min)

Invite one person from each group to read their poems to the class.

Teacher can assign an award for each poem.

Final step

Give some feedback to students. Collect feedback from students.
