English as a Lingua Franca

There is a tendency nowadays for English being a language of international and intercultural communication. In Europe it is now called a lingua franca, which means the following: for example you are a Belgian talking to your Estonian friend somewhere in the Switzerland in English. I think we can say that it is similar to Russian now in the countries of the post-Soviet Union.

Many people find it great that people all over the world can communicate using one language - English. But some express fear believeing that the increased use of English will lead to the "death" of the native language.
