Essential question (Driving question):

How can you use language to empower yourself?

I think this question is an Essential question because it meets all the criteria of this term:

level of complexityTo answer this question, students will need to analyze many aspects of life that can be improved by knowledge of the English language, such as work, place of residence, social circle, availability of more information, etc.

level of coherence - This question contributes to the interests of the student, helps to understand the importance of learning English, thereby contributing to the achievement of learning objectives.

level of authenticityconfidence level - the answer to this question is the connection between learning English and the student’s real life.

Checklist for framing an effective question

• Is it provocative? – Yes, this question makes the student wonder how they can empower if they learn English.

• Is it open-ended? - Yes, this question requires a detailed answer.

Does it go to the heart of a discipline or topic? – Yes, of course. It is directly connected to the English lesson.

Is it challenging? – Yes, it is quite difficult because it requires an analysis of different parts of life.

Does it arise from real world dilemmas that students find interesting? This question is connected with the real world, with the students' life and completely affects their interests.

• Is it consistent with learning outcomes and other curricular standards and frameworks as defined in the Huraian Sukatan Pelajaran (HSP), etc? Yes, it is  consistent with learning outcomes.

Content, Skills, Personal Strengths – This question has good content and in order to answer this question, students should use all this skills and personal qualities:

    • knowing how and when to use technology and choosing the most appropriate tool for the task
    • planning, critical thinking, reasoning, and creativity
    • personal and social responsibility
    • strong communication skills, both for interpersonal and presentation needs
    • cross-cultural understanding
