What was he famous for? He was famous for discovery of penicillin in 1928. It has helped millions of people to recover from illnesses .

His awards Fleming was a member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1943. He was awarded the Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He was knighted as a Knight Bachelor by king George VI in 1944. He was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Alfonso X the Wise in 1948. In 1999 Time magazine named Fleming one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20 th century.
