Standard of living:
Australia is a country with a highly developed economy, its cities consistently occupy the top lines in terms of comfort and quality of life. The country has high salaries that provide comfortable living, a high level of social protection, and a low unemployment rate of only 6.6%. It follows from this that the standard of living in the country is high.
Climate and nature
Australia is a unique country that is definitely worth a visit. Here you can find white sand beaches, mountains, tropical rainforests, lakes and waterfalls. In national parks, you can find such unique animals as kangaroos, platypuses, echidnas, koalas and wombats.
Australia has a diverse climate that will delight lovers of stunning beaches and rainforests, snow-capped mountains, lush grasslands and arid deserts. The temperature range ranges from minus degrees in winter to forty degrees in summer.
Dangerous fauna
Many people associate Australia with venomous snakes, spiders and jellyfish, sharks and crocodiles. For example, 6 of the 10 most venomous snake species in the world live in Australia. It must be admitted that these fears are clearly exaggerated. The possibility of meeting a dangerous spider or snake is negligible in the city. The likelihood of a snake or spider bite is minimal, as Australia is quite developed, and any hospital has an antidote.
High solar activity
Australia has a very active sun. The UV index here is 10 times higher than in Europe, so the risk of sunburn and skin cancer is very high. Apply sunscreen if you'll be in direct sunlight for more than half an hour, wear a hat, and stay out of the sun on hot days.
Cataclysms
Australia has an arid climate, so it officially announces the limitation of water use during a drought. For example, from 10 am to 4 pm you can not water the lawn and paths, as well as fill the pools. In addition, droughts and high temperatures cause forest fires. Hurricanes, tropical cyclones, tornadoes and storms are also common in tropical north Queensland.
Language and its features
Australia was once a British penal colony and its language is based on English colonialism. This means that while Australian English may sound similar to American English, it generally follows the rules of British spelling.
Although the vast majority of the words used in the Australian language are similar to those used in Russian. But there are some differences to be aware of:
"French fries" is called "chips", "gas" is called "gasoline", "truck" is called "ute", and, most confusingly, "slippers" is called "thongs".
Australian slang is an integral part of the country's culture, but sometimes you can wonder if the inhabitants speak English.
Some slang words used in everyday life may seem like complete nonsense, some sound obscene, but, fortunately, some of them are easy to deduce (for example, "mozzy", which means "mosquitoes").
Culture and entertainment
Australia is a relatively young country with its own unique history. In major cities such as Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, there are many museums, live music concerts, festivals, nightclubs and even concerts of world famous stars. In inland Australian cities such as Armidale, Rockhampton or Ballarat, you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Victorian era and the gold rush.
Opportunities for immigration
Australia has a fairly loyal immigration policy, welcoming valuable professionals, business people and investors from abroad. As a result, 30% of the Australian population was born in other countries. After four years of residence in the country, you can obtain an Australian passport, which gives you the right to visa-free entry to 183 countries around the world.
Medicine
In Australia, high-quality and effective medicine, but it is also paid. Every citizen of Australia enters into an agreement with a medical center and can freely seek medical help. At the same time, the state compensates part of the costs. If a person goes to a medical center not under an agreement, but privately, then the cost of admission can be from 300 AUD and such a treatment scheme does not involve compensation payments.
Education
Australia is famous for its high quality education. Australian degrees in the humanities, sciences, sciences and medicine and technology are recognized and valued around the world. And universities such as the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, the Australian National University, the University of Queensland, Monash University, the University of New South Wales, are among the top 100 universities in all world rankings. Australia is the third most popular destination for international students after the US and England.
The cost of living
A high standard of living comes at a cost. Studying at an Australian university costs an average of 13,000-45,000 Australian dollars per year, but a similar education in America or the UK costs more.
As a rule, a student needs to have 20 thousand dollars a year for accommodation. Some visitors complain about the high cost of public transport and services. But the most expensive thing that eats up to half of the weekly budget is rent.
Features of life
- Pay attention to your cell phone signal
When you leave the cities, offline or paper maps will become your friends. As soon as you leave the inhabited areas, you will find that your mobile phone has poor service (or no service at all).
Unlike the United States, Australians drive on the left. Moreover, they also walk on the left, which greatly reduces your chances of accidentally bumping into someone.
The diversity of religions in Australia is amazing and there is no compulsion to follow any religion. Although Christianity is the most widely practiced religion, the Australian Constitution prohibits the government from influencing religious freedom or establishing churches.
This means that all religions are welcome in Australia.
Sport in Australia is essentially a religion. Unique sports such as Australian rules football enjoy widespread support, while almost all Australians support international sports such as cricket and rugby. It also hosts the Australian Open, Melbourne Cup horse racing, athletics, surfing and football.
Conclusion
Australia is an amazing place on planet Earth. There are a lot of interesting, unusual, delightful things here. It is a paradise for tourists as well as for expats. However, at first, having arrived in this country, it is important to have a sufficient amount of accumulated financial resources until you get a job. Otherwise, life in Australia will seem very difficult, although it really is not, and Australia's many advantages prove it.
