We are going to celebrate a great holiday soon.

What holiday is it?

When is Victory day?

Why is it a big holiday in our country?

Is it an important date for the people of our region? Why?

So what is the topic of our lesson?

Pupils listen to the teacher attentively and answer questions. They try to guess what is the topic of the lesson.

1.4. Associations with the word ‘The Great Patriotic War’.

-I have many associations with the word ‘The Great Patriotic War’.

For example:

- it was 4 o’clock;

- early morning on June 22nd, 1941;

- the USSR;

-“Russia is large, but we cannot retreat, behind us is Moscow”.

When you hear these words, which associations do you have?

P1: The 9^th of May 1945, Adolf Hitler.

P2: A great salute in Moscow, the Red Army.

P3: the famous “Road of Life".

1.5. Актуализация знаний по теме “World War II ”.

The 9th of May is a special day for all Russian people. This is Victory Day. This is the day when the Great Patriotic War finished. For the Soviet Union, the war started on the 22nd of June 1941. A day before, on the 21st of June, in all schools of the country there was a party - the last school ball. Girls and boys had just finished school. They were dancing, dreaming of the future and did not know that the following day, they would go to war and never come home again. For the Soviet Union the war lasted for 4 years. It was a very hard time for everyone. In many cities and villages there was starvation. Millions of Soviet soldiers died in this war. But they won and became heroes to every Russian person.

Pupils listen to the teacher attentively.

A veteran- ветеран.

In honour of- в честь.

Pupils read the letter one by one and complete the sentences.

1. What is it?(1 word)

2. Describe this thing using two adjectives.(2 adjectives)

3. What this thing can do? (3 verbs)

4. Your personal attitude to this thing.(4-5 words)

5. One noun to express your feelings to this thing.

You’ve learned a lot of new things today.

What can you say about the Great Patriotic War?

P1: Seventy five years have passed since the victory in the Great Patriotic war, but it still finds reflection in human souls.

P2: This victory was achieved with great effort. Every family in the country was touched and involved into this cruel war. Even my grandfathers and great-grandfathers participated in it.

P3: This war didn’t spare anyone, but the desire to bring victory and peace to native land was stronger.

4.1. Рефлексия:

-Victory Day is a symbol of a national pride, glory. It consolidates and joins everybody today. In our country Victory day is celebrated by all people in every city, town, village, because it brought peace not only for the Soviet People but for the people of many European countries. I’m glad that you know the history of Russia!

-We must remember the Great Patriotic War and its heroes, honour the memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom.

What can we do for veterans?

What do you think?

P1: Our country does not forget about veterans and every year we can watch the parade in the center of the Moscow to the honour of the perished solders.

P2: It is a great pleasure for veterans that they are remembered and beloved. This kind of the praise is the best for them.

P3: The fighters for independence will be remembered forever and for always.
