• London stands on the river Thames. London is the capital of Grate Britain, is a very old city. It is two thousand years old. Many years ago London was a small town on the Thames. Now London is a big port and a beautiful city with large squares and parks .

• Tower Bridge is the only Thames bridge which can be raised. The road over the bridge is built on two central sections, they open two or three times a week.

• Tower of London is a very old building. It is nine hundred years old. In the early days of the history of England the English kings lived here. Then it was a prison where many people died. The Tower of London is a museum now.

• The center of London is Trafalgar Square . It is the most beautiful place in London. In the middle of the square stands a tall column. It is a monument to Admiral Nelson. Four bronze lions look at the square from the monument.

Buckingham Palace . It is the London home of the Queen. The ceremony of the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace is a great tourist attraction. To the sounds of music the guardsmen in their traditional bearskins arrive and give the palace keys to another group.

The first monarch who took residence there was Queen Victoria. It has 600 rooms, a swimming pool, a cinema, a ballroom, a garden, and so on.

• Big Ben is the name of the clock and the bell of the clock tower of the House of Parliament. You can hear the sound of Big Ben every hour in London. The clock and the bell got their names after Sir Benjamin Hall. He was a tall man, whose nickname was Big Ben. So people know the clock as Big Ben.

• The largest park in London is Hyde Park . It is one of the most popular places of Londoners on hot summer days. There are many other pleasant parks and green squares there too.
