Trafalgar Square is a place where the three Westminster’s streets: Strand, Whitehall and Mall meet. It’s a traditional place for meetings, demonstrations, other gatherings and mass events holding.The square was founded in 1820.  

The square was named after the naval Battle of Trafalgar on this site, which was led by Admiral Horatio Nelson. In memory of this outstanding man, a column with a granite monument of Nelson on the summit was erected on the square. The height of the column is 56 meters. Four huge lions of bronze are installed at the foot.

Fountains on Trafalgar square-one of the Central attractions in London. The East and West fountains are the names of Betty Lord (Lord Beatty) and Lord Jellicoe (Lord Jellicoe).

To the north-east of Trafalgar Square there is the building that houses the National Gallery of Art - one of the most important Art Galleries in the world - and behind is the National Portrait Gallery.

Since the mid-19th century, the national Portrait gallery, located next to The national gallery, has collected more than 1,100 portraits of famous historical and modern figures.

Trafalgar Square is popularly called the "heart of England", because it is one of the most beautiful and favorite places for citizens and tourists. In addition to the beauty of the square with fountains and surrounding famous buildings, tourists are attracted by interesting sculptures and monuments on its territory.
