(W) Pre-listening/ speaking

Ask Ss how was travelling in the past different from travelling now? Consider some of the following:

-speed

-how often people travelled

-where they went and why

-means of transport


(I)Listening and post-listening

Task 1

Tell SS they are going to hear a grandpa telling his granddaughter about his travel experiences. Ask Ss to do true, false or not given task.

Task 2

Post listening exercise where they need to fill the gaps with words in box.

Pre-reading

Read the text about a day trip. Do the post reading exercise.

Multiple choice 6 questions. Underline words and phrases related to rail travel.

  2. Ask Ss to read the text about a day trip. Use the information in the text to do multiple choice exercise.

Next, as Ss to read the text again and finish multiple choice questions and ask them to underline words and phrases related to rail travel.

Keys: verb phrases: board a train, catch a train (also possible: put someone on a train). Nouns: express train, ticket, platform.


(W) Post-reading\Speaking

Pair/ group work in channels. Divide Ss into pairs in channels and ask them present the information.

Discuss the following questions in pairs/ groups

Choose one or two and tell your partner about it.

  • The longest journey you’ve ever made (in km/in hours)

  • The journey on which you used the largest number of different means of transport

  • A very enjoyable journey

  • A journey on which something went wrong

  • A trip to a place where you didn’t know the language

More capable learners are proposed to do the grammar task.
