Task 1

  1. Prelistening task



Look at the pictures. Write down some key words and phrases to describe it. Guess what the text is about.

Варианты ответов: A country house, a forest, a lake (pond), to go fishing, the weather is…, to swim, no fish in the pail, etc.

  1. This story is very unusual; it does not have either title or the end. Look at the blackboard, here you can see some titles, which I offer you for this story: Unsuccessful Fishing

Choose any of them or suggest your own variant.



  1. Guess and answer the questions:

  1. Now let’s listen to the text and check the answers:

Bob’s family has got a small but a very nice country house. The place is beautiful there. There is a forest and lake near the house. They have got a garden with different fruit trees. Bob’s father enjoys gardening. Bob and his little sister Liz often help their parents work in the garden.

Last summer the family didn’t go to the sea and spent the summer in the country. Every morning Bob went to the lake to swim and to fish.

One morning, as usual, Bob went to the lake to fish. Soon his pail was full of fish. The weather was fine. The sun was high up in the sky. Bob was terribly hot. He thought: “I’ll swim in the lake first before I go home. I’ll take the home and ask Mum to cook fish soup. We all like fish soup. Mum will be happy”

Bob swam and played in the lake for a long time.

When he got out of the water, there was nj fish in the pail.

Listen and match pictures with the dialogues

Dialogue A

A: I can’t see any vegetarian dishes here

B: They are on pages 2 and 3. Are you a strict vegetarian?

A: No. I just avoid meat, chicken, fish and eggs.

B: In other words, all foods reach in vitamins and proteins. What do you eat then

A: Oh, there are lots of healthy and tasty foods left. And here is my first choice-grilled aubergine with tomatoes and onions. Yummy! I can never cook it properly at home. It always gets burnt

B: Well, fine. But you don’t mind if I have fish, do you?

A: No. Whatever you like.



Dialogue B

A:It’s pretty exhausting , isn’it? I come here three times a week, and you?

B: It depends. I don’t take all this sports stuff too seriously. I come when I feel like exercising.

A: You are lucky. I have to exercise and diet to keep feet. Every Sunday I design a menu for the next week. The main point is to make it healthy and not to exceed the calorie limit. I try to avoid chips and fizzy drinks

B: I see. Is it ok if we discuss your diet later? It’s not a good idea to talk when you are on a treadmill.

A: Ok, ok. I just wanted to relax a bit. Just 3 minutes more here and I’m going to use the exercise bike



Dialogue C

A: What’s for lunch? I’m starving, aren’t you?

B: No, I don’t think I’m hungry. We only had breakfast three hours ago.

A: Considering what kind of breakfast it was, I could have eaten lunch right after it! A handful of cornflakes with skimmed milk and coffee without sugar. What a fantastic meal!

B: But it was healthy! And contained the exact number of calories the doctor recommends for a person of your age and build…

A: I don’t care what the doctor says. Look, there’s nothing in the fridge except a couple of eggs and the milk left from our breakfast.

B: Ok, we can have lunch somewhere in the city if you want.

Task 4

Draw a portrait of a man according to his description.

Работа в группах. Нарисовать изображение человека (животного, сказочного персонажа) в соответствии с его описанием. (Может использоваться аудиозапись или описание учащимися)

Task 5

Игра «Угадай-ка»

Класс делится на 2 или 3 группы. Ведущий показывает изображение предмета капитану команды, который должен описать следующему игроку данный предмет, не называя его. Если игрок угадывает изображение, он должен описать этот же предмет, но уже другими словами, не повторяя пояснения предыдущего игрока. Та команда, которая быстрее справится с заданием является победителем.
