Christmas traditions in Great Britain
The British celebrate Christmas on the 25 th of December.
Father Christmas or Santa Claus is an old man in red clothes with a long white beard.
He travels through the sky on a sledge pulled by 8 reindeer.
Santa Claus comes into houses down the chimney at night and places presents for children in stockings.
Christmas stockings are usually hung by the fireplace.
Children leave some cookies and milk for Santa as a token of gratitude.
The British decorate Christmas Tree and put their presents under it till Boxing Day.
The sweet symbol of Christmas is a candy cane. The “J” means Jesus.
The British decorate their houses with some green plants – holy, ivy, mistletoe.

Christingle is a traditional gift on Christmas Eve. Christingle is made of an orange (world) with a candle on top (symbol of Christ), red ribbon around the orange (symbol of the blood Jesus shed), 4 sticks (4 directions and 4 seasons) and dried fruit on them (gifts of the earth).
