• The past century was the most colorful and vibrant, so until now designers and fashion houses are inspired by the collections of the past to create new ones. Everything we wear now comes to us from the fashion of the 20th century. Just imagine that your bright leggings came into vogue from the 80s, for the first time a T-shirt was created in America in the 40s, and a frivolous youth style appeared in the 60s.

The first Period, the fashion of the early 20th century: the 20s - the 30s

Women's fashion at the beginning of the 20th century is the embodiment of the Art Nouveau style and the “beautiful era." The image of a woman was carrying something unearthly, it seemed that every person was alien to earthly problems, routine, life and any physical work. Distinctive features of fashion were:

• men's suits for girls
• the use of a slanting cut, which made the figure perfect
• a kind of vulgarity, pretentiousness, which was clearly visible in the outfits

The most striking trendsetter in women's fashion of the early 20th century was the legendary Marlene Dietrich - a real style icon.

Second Period, 30s - 40s

• During this period, the restriction on the use of fabrics for the manufacture of clothing came into force. There was a serious shortage of tissues and «Нaute couture» in Paris was forced to slightly reduce activity. The only joy of that time was hats. Hats helped ladies to stand out and show individuality, and also perfectly concealed untied hair and added elegance to clothes.

World War II made its own adjustments not only in the lives of people, but also influenced fashion and style. Distinctive features of the time:

• Vulgarity being replaced by simplicity
• Convenience and comfort
• Simple solutions came to replace sophistication and luxury, for example: necklaces were easily replaced with elegant handkerchiefs

Third Period, 40s - 50s

The world was full of hope for a bright future. Girls with thin waists and prominent bust became the standard of beauty. The main features of the time:

• accentuated neckline
• waist-fitting outfits
• high-heels
• decoration of clothes with rhinestones and patterns

Christian Dior became the brightest person of the time, he managed to return to women their sophistication and sensuality, gave the world a new style and a new vision of the female image.

Fourth Period, 60s

The fashion history of the 20th century highlights this period. There is a real cultural revolution during this decade. The main features of the 60s are:

• New phenomenon - youth fashion. Now designers used ideas that were scooped right on the streets as a basis for the collections.
• Mini. Mary Coint made a real sensation. Women are grateful to him for stylish dresses that perfectly highlight long legs. A little later, Pierre Cardin introduced his detail in this image - high boots.
• Rudi Gernrayrh - the legendary designer which brought the style of "Unisex", swimsuits without top. Another achievement of his is models that showed transparent blouses without a bra.
• Hippie. This current rapidly gained momentum in the late 60s. Bright colors, comfortable clothing, convenience and freedom.

Fifth Period, the 70s

In the seventies, fashion completely overturns. Exotic youth being replaced by Italian femininity and originality. The main differences of that time:

• Restraint clothing
• Successful combinations of sets: skirts and blouses, jackets and trousers
• Disco style: original massive jewelry, bright makeup, crazy colors in clothes

The end of the 20th century: the 80s fashion

This is already a retro-style copy many designers in 2013 and 2014. Images of the young singer Madonna are popular again, and young people choose her style icon again.
