Holstein breed of cows
Cows of the "Holstein" breed are considered one of the most popular.
It is the most common breed among dairy cattle in the United States and Canada
According to the general opinion and numerous reviews, the Holstein breed of cows is the best in terms of productivity in dairy farming.
Characteristic
Тhe overwhelming majority of Holstein are variegated black and white. The color ratio for each cow is individual, therefore, there are both almost completely black and almost completely white individuals. Occasionally, calves are born with a red-variegated color, which is a manifestation of a recessive gene. In the old days, such animals were culled, but today they are specially selected to create a new reddish-red breed.
Тhe breed is also characterized by a fairly large size. The weight of adult cows reaches 6-7 centners, and bulls weigh about 9 centners on average.
Weight
Gobies reach a mass of 1200 kg. First-calf cows grow 650 kg, later their weight increases to 750-850 kg. At birth, calves are large: heifers weigh about 38 kg, and gobies - about 42 kg .
Holstein dairy cows have the following advantages:
-record milk productivity and high quality indicators of the product;
-good immunity, high resistance to disease;
-high growth rate of bulls in comparison with other dairy breeds, high percentage of meat products;
-cleanliness of animals.
The disadvantages of the breed include:
-high feeding costs;
-decrease in milk yield when kept in harsh climatic conditions;
-fearfulness, sensitivity, low stress resistance of animals, which negatively affects the level of milk yield.
