1. Study the two photographs. In 1.5 minutes be ready to compare and contrast the photographs:

• say which kind of transport presented in the pictures you prefer

I would like to compare and contrast the photographs which demonstrate two kinds of transport.

In the first photo we can see a man and a woman standing on a platform in front of a train. They have some luggage with them. In the second photo we can see a young woman trying to catch a taxi on a busy road.

These photos have some similarities. Firstly, both kinds of transport shown in the photos run on land. Secondly, both the train and the taxi are used to carry passengers.

There are also some differences between these pictures. The most obvious difference is that the first photo shows a railway vehicle while in the second photo we can see a road vehicle. Also, the train has more capacity and can carry many more passengers than the taxi.

Personally, I prefer trains to taxis.

The main reason is that travelling by train is much cheaper than travelling by taxi. Also, trains are a more environmentally friendly means of transport as they emit less carbon dioxide than cars.

That’s all I wanted to say.

I’d like to compare and contrast the photographs which demonstrate two women’s activities in their free time.

In the first picture we can see a young woman definitely in the kitchen preparing meals. The other photo gives us a view of a girl snowboarding down a hill in a city. There are some blocks of flats in the background.

I would start with some similarities. Firstly, the pictures demonstrate the same thing – women’s favourite activities. The second thing deals with the feelings both girls have – very positive, pleasant and exciting. Finally, both girls demonstrate certain skills that must be constantly developed.

However, these activities also have some differences. First of all, the atmosphere of cooking meals is calm and peaceful, whereas snowboarding is seen as somehow dangerous and adventurous. Then, the girl cooking meals is not very physically active, while the snowboarding girl is. Finally, the girl in the first picture is probably cooking meals for the family. As for the girl in the second picture, she is doing the activity for herself.

To tell the truth, I’d prefer snowboarding because this activity has a lot of advantages.

Firstly, being active means being fit for me. Secondly, while snowboarding you can spend time outdoors and breathe fresh air. Thirdly, skills you gain while snowboarding can build your character.

That’s where I’d like to end.
