BEGINNING THE LESSON

(Activities to consolidate the language of the previous letters.)

Show the pupils letter’s flashcards . Ask a pupil to say the letters: Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ff, Gg, Hh. Ask the rest of the class for verification. Repeat with as many pupils as you think necessary.

PRESENTATION and PRACTICE.

(Activities to present and practise the letters Ii-Jj.)

Listen, point and repeat. Colour the letters.

Put the ABC poster on the board. Point to the letter Ii and say: Ii /i/. The pupils must repeat after the teacher. Point to the letters and ask the pupils to say the sound. Follow the same procedure with Jj.

Point to the picture of the igloo and say: Ii- /i/- igloo. The pupils repeat after teacher. Repeat with Jj-/dz/-jam.


  • Now, open your Activity Books. Point to and elicit the letters and the words. Play the CD. The pupils listen, point to and repeat the letters and the words. The pupils then colour in the letters.

TRACE. WRITE.

Refer pupils to the letters. Hold up your book and demonstrate how to write the letters by drawing imaginary letters over the examples. Explane the activity. The pupils first trace then write the letters. Allow the pupils some time to complete the activity. Go around the class, providing any necessary help.

ENDING THE LESSON

(An activity to consolidate letters Ii and Jj.)

Divide the class into two teams, A and B. Draw two columns on the board with A and B at the top. Point to the My ABC poster and ask a pupil from team A to identify the sound, the picture. Repeat with a pupil from Team B. The winner is the team with the most points.

e.g. Teacher: (points to i - igloo)

Team A, Pupil 1: i - /i/

Teacher: One point!
